RENEWED COLLABORATION WITH HERMES GERMANY: REALIZATION OF A NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTER NEAR DRESDEN
The Peper & Söhne group of companies continues its cooperation with Hermes Germany and will realize a new sorting and distribution center in Thiendorf near Dresden for the Hamburg-based parcel logistics company. The partial building permit has been obtained, so that construction work can begin on the logistics site, which is conveniently located on the A13 motorway.
A sorting and distribution center including administrative areas with a size of approx. 10,800 m2 will then be built on a site area of approx. 68,500 m2 , which will supply the entire region till Dresden. The project is a brownfield development; the industrial site, which has lain fallow for years, was extensively reclaimed. GOLDBECK GmbH will act as total contractor for the construction work. The new site is expected to be fully operational within the Hermes network by Christmas 2023.
"We are very pleased that Hermes Germany has once again placed its trust in us and that we are allowed to tackle the project in Thiendorf," Christoph Peper, Managing Partner of the Peper & Söhne group of companies, is pleased to say. Peper & Söhne had already realized a high-performance depot for Hermes Germany in Weyhe near Bremen in 2020.
"Up to now, we have primarily focused on the northern German region when projecting new commercial properties, but when a valued customer such as Hermes Germany requests our services, we naturally also become active outside our core area. For us, it is at the same time a confirmation of the good work our project teams have done in the past," explains Peper.
"We are pleased to have Peper & Söhne as a competent partner at our side who will support us in further expanding our logistics network in a sustainable manner. Thanks to the site's advantageous location, good transport links and state-of-the-art process technology, we will be able to consolidate and efficiently supply several smaller areas of the greater Dresden area at the Thiendorf site in the future," explains André Mushack, Head of LC & Depot Development at Hermes Germany GmbH and responsible for site development at Hermes Germany.
Focus on sustainability
The new hall in Thiendorf will include a high-performance sorting system that will be able to process up to 15,000 shipments per hour at the start of operations. In further expansion stages, 20,000 shipments per hour are possible. Efficient loading and removal of all shipments will be ensured by 101 sectional doors. In addition to the actual hall, an office and social wing, parking areas for containers, trucks and cars, and a gatekeeper's building with Hermes ParcelShop are being built on the site in Thiendorf.
As with all new construction projects, the Peper & Söhne group of companies also has the sustainability aspect in mind in Thiendorf. The project will be executed in an EG-55 standard and will have a photovoltaic system on the roof surface, which will supply the e-charging infrastructure. With this project, Peper & Söhne is aiming for the gold certificate of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
